We have been wrestling with the idea of approaching the downtown Muskegon area with the Lake Michigan Art Walk. While the name of the organization allows us to work with any local area in the West Michigan area our desire is to see if it can work with the newly formed downtown area. Downtown Muskegon has the great village type environment but lacks the people traffic that might make an artist feel confident that they are going to get the exposure. We looking for comments and interaction here.
What about having it at the same time as another event down town? Perhaps just for this first year? It's not fun to plan a party and then have no one show up. Or possibly have it weeks in a row, one during an upcoming busy week downtown and then tell everyone we would be having a standalone event the following week? Perhaps with strolling or strategically place musicians. For example Boyne City has a Street Stroll every Friday night in the summer. We could have a dally in the Alley by Russell Block Market. Even Art related street performers could get involved. (A la Key West) I do professional face painting ... People love to walk...talk and listen, play..
ReplyDeleteWe are pretty wide open at this point. We are going to be very sensitive to our participating artists as to where they feel comfortable as well. I like the musician idea... Thank you for the input!
