What is the Lake Michigan Art Walk?

What is the Lake Michigan Art Walk?  This question has come up in conversation many times and I thought that I would answer that question formally here on the blog so that all can refer to it when that question comes up.

The LMAW (Lake Michigan Art Walk) was born out of the idea that an artist needs to be able to show and sell in an environment pursuant to that idea on a regular basis.  Not only does the artist need to show and sell regularly but local economies need to flourish and grow as well. Founders Bryan David Snuffer and Gary Packingham have seen the big picture in this process.  There is a tremendous investment needs to be made here in Muskegon.  Not one of money but one of care an hard work.

The art walk is designed to accomplish both of these ideas in a place that really needs it, Downtown Muskegon.

The art walk is an event that will ultimately take place every Thursday evening from 5:30 pm to 8:30 pm.  Artists are sponsored by local businesses by allowing them have a gallery space in their business for the evening.  Businesses will benefit from the walk in traffic and artists will have a growth oriented space to show in for the event.  As businesses in the downtown area grow in responding to this idea the walk will grow.  While we are starting out small by occupying the Frauenthal Performing Arts Center we hope to have other businesses participate creating more of a walk.  The art walk creates a response to the very important subject of the day.  How do we grow our economy?

This is a work in progress so there will be more later...
